About The Artwork

Materials used for the painting are acrylic paint, medium and pigments. There are small beads embroidered inside the flowers, the paint in the flowers is glow in the dark. The fence is embroidered with silver yarn.
The artist likes it to select herself a good quality of linen and stretches this on a wooden frame.
She uses primers like gesso and sandpaper to prepare the linen for painting. She likes to make small references in her paintings, such as embroidery and beadings, as a reference to her past as a fashion designer.
This modern art painting contains a subliminal story about a contemporary social aspect. It is a contemporary fairytale about the good the bad.
The image shows a woman, she walks in an urban environment. Behind the walking woman there is a fence visible, with behind the fence refugees, not allowed to enter (Europe, not allowed to enter the United Kingdom).

Hester works in concepts, with a clear idea, the human in motion. She also wants to make the importance of the used material visible, such as with the transparent paintings in layers. Her paintings are regularly exhibited and also collected abroad; Her work regularly gets a central place at this artsite Saatchiart.com It is possible to visit her studio in Amsterdam, on appointment. THE ARTIST ABOUT HER WORK "In my paintings I am fascinated by the human in motion. I often work for years with a concept; in wich new nuances arise. The role of the material used is also important: -My favourite carrier is transparent. It creates an effect of fragility, depth and shadows. -I like to use textile additions like patchwork, holes, cuts and sutures, embroidery, or mother of Pearl buttons. -The use of pigments. By making paint with pigments, the tone can be surprisingly deeper, more shiny or matt. As I was a fashion designer before being a contemporay artist, many of my paintings have traces of fashion and textile additions ".
