About The Artwork

The conclusion of a series of works of the same design, there is a digital and a small oil on paper version. The active painterly marks interplayed with what some call negative space. After completing the digital version I was inspired to use something of its colour ways. Also it adopts some of the practice approach of watercolours but in the context of oil paints. The colouration reminded me of fire and for some reason I remembered the Biblical story of the bush on fire but not consumed by fire, hence the title. I cannot decide if the work is shallow in some way, the content seems limited, but because of the complexity of its execution the surface and gestural qualities reward the eye. As for the colouration it seems decidedly un European and reminds me of the work of artists from parts of South East Asia.

I was a painter to begin. I started doing computer art in the late 70s, programmed at first but then evolving into a couple of strands of practice. Today the painting and the computer work interact sometimes, because of digital media I also retrieve and revisit old work when it merits it. Art theorists and historians tend to demand a kind of monotony in creatives' work, I lost interest in that kind of thesis a long time ago so I have fun and do what interests me, hence the range of styles and approaches. If you like anything please show it and tick like, it provides useful motivation.
