About The Artwork
This image of Sherlock Holmes and Watson was adapted from a 1930s cinema classic. The original source, being black and white gave me complete freedom to play with the colour as I imagined it. There is a beautiful painting from c1928 by Scottish Colourist FCB Cadell, called The Orange Blind which came to mind while I was working on it. This suggested the orientation of diagonals in the composition as well as my title. I hope viewers will be intrigued by Holmes' intense expression and all the possibilities of a drama unfolding.
