About The Artwork

A solitary crow against the backdrop of the gloomy sky doesn't frighten, doesn't evoke sadness, but on the contrary - it gives birth to a sensation that the inner strength of the crow allows it to be free, calm, and self-assured in itself and in the world around. The artwork employs the time-honored glaze technique reminiscent of the old Dutch painters. This method involves delicately applying numerous thin layers of paint, culminating in a translucent, subtly gleaming color veneer that graces the canvas. Consequently, the colors, retaining their inherent lightness, unfurl with heightened dimensions, intensity, and richness.

Krzysztof Polak, born in 1947, lives in Warsaw, Poland. Krzysztof uses the glaze technique invented by old Dutch painters. It consists of applying many thin layers of paint, which create a translucent, slightly shimmering color coating on the surface of the canvas. As a result, the color, while maintaining lightness, gains depth, intensity and saturation. His paintings connect the old, noble painting technique with the poetic imagination of contemporary art. Krzysztof's other interest is history and conservation of Japanese swords. He has organized four exhibitions from Polish private collections, published two books and a dozen of articles and lectures. Krzysztof is an expert of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and a member of the Japanese swords' art and protection society NICGON BUJUTSU TOKEN KAI. Since 1982, after a viral disease resulting in paraplegia, he has been moving in a wheelchair.
