ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The subject matter of this painting was inspired by the author's reflection on the renewing cycles of nature. In nature, death is a beginning of a new life, a being that once lived is absorbed back into the cycle and without one you cannot have the other. Thus, a juxtaposition of the symbols of life and death (skull and flowers) are depicted in the image. The figure of a girl on top of the skull is a representation of us, obsessed with youth and beauty, not being able to get to terms that it doesn't and in fact shouldn't last forever. We are all part of this cycle. The painting is made with oil on canvas.
