Although I paint a variety of subjects, there is something uniquely captivating about people and faces that completely draws me in. Just as I am inspired by the play of light and color in nature, I find myself moved by the emotions and stories that a face can convey. The human expression, much like ...

Alan Fink (b.1949) has been painting professionally since 1972 but was drawing and painting from his earliest years under the tutelage of his mother, Baltimore artist Paula Fink (1924-2018). He continued his post secondary education at University of Maryland College Park and UMUC. In 1970, he enrolled in the Schuler School of Art in Baltimore, where he studied drawing, pastel and oil painting, anatomy, and life drawing with Ann Schuler, and sculpture with her husband, Hans Schuler, Jr. It was here that he learned to prepare his own oil paints and pastels by grinding pure pigments with various binders, something he continues to this day. As a result of studying drawing and painting techniques of the Old Masters, his work is rooted in classical realism in subject matter that includes portrait, still life, and landscape. He works in a variety of mediums including pastel, oil, acrylic, and watercolor. In 1980, Alan took over the directorship of what is now the Fink School of Traditional Art, started by Paula in 1965, where he teaches drawing, pastel, and oil painting. Additionally, he teaches pastel painting and acrylic painting at the Community College of Baltimore County. His work has been represented over the years by Statehouse Art in Millersville, Maryland, and International Art Acquisitions in Rochester, New York but now exhibits and sells his work both online and in his own gallery located in the Fink Art School () in historic Reisterstown, Maryland.
