The dishes in the dish drainer are bathed in the warm light of an incandescent lamp, while the cool light from early twilight bathes then from the other direction. This is what inspired me to paint this scene, emphasizing those complimentary light colors.

I was born in Ann Arbor Michigan and grew up in Chicago. I was eleven when I won a Golden Key Award for Art through a Chicago Public School competition. At about that time I also won a scholarship to a series of lectures at The Art Institute of Chicago. After being discharged from the Army, I attended The Maryland College of Art and Design in 1971, where I became excited about impressionism and abstract art and studied the works of Monet, Van Gogh, Rothko, Rauschenberg, Johns, Indiana, and others. To help finance my schooling, I sketched portraits in the summer on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD. and continued to do so for ten years. I also perfected my skill as a portrait painter and received numerous commissions. Above all else in art, I have always been interested in color. I’m intrigued with how color works. I also experiment with outlines in my work.
