The graveyard shift this is a humorous take on not sleeping, working late and a good scare. The idea came to me in the wee small hours awake late after watching scary tv I was thinking about why we like scary stories. Why when we are children do we like ghost stories or dare each other to knock on the door of a scary person or as in this case cut through the graveyard. What is it in human nature that desires this and why? Well these were my musings when this image popped into my head. I work on Somerset paper it’s cotton rag and absorbs the ink and paint I throw at it without buckling. I draw and paint with both hands at the same time starting off with fine line roller ball pens, then Indian ink applied with brushes, sticks, feathers and bits of card. Next I use water based pigments that I mix myself then acrylic paint. I use both hands at the same time because I want the work to have lots of movement, to be spontaneous and not look over worked. The idea of a section of the graveyard getting up and walking made me laugh, I love the character hiding behind the tombstone.
