One night I was dreaming about angel playing chess with my son. I woke up in a middle of a night and created a sketch. I do get some ideas about my future paintings during a night. This is why I always keep a sketchbook under my pillow!

The Artist - Anna Aneychik - earned her MA in Art Textiles from the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz Academy of Art and Design, and holds a PGSE from Goldsmith University, London. She lives in South East of London with her family. Anna was born in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, one of the first ancient cities to appear on the Great Silk Road from China to Europe. When she was only 2 months old, a devastating earthquake hit her native city. All the members of her family fortunately survived. Her grandfather from her father’s side was Armenian, her grandmother - Persian, Zoroastrian. Anna’s Russian mother is a professional pianist, introduced her to classical music at an early age. Music has a big influence on her work—she listens to classical music while painting. Her desire to draw and paint was, however, inherited from her father. He was a very good, self-taught graphical artist, and an excellent photographer. Anna’s mixed heritage makes her feel truly cosmopolitan. At the age of 15, Anna moved to Moscow, Russia, to study at an Art College. Four years later, she moved to St.Petersburg, where she earned an MA in Art Textiles. After moving at first to Germany, she moves to London in 1994. Anna Aney’s works are mostly paintings and graphics. She paints with acrylic and mixed media, and often uses boards instead of canvases. She gets her inspiration from everyday objects, natural patterns and icons. Although she does not work in textiles at the moment, decorative pattern and line are typical of her works, influences from textile studies. She studied classical art for a long time, but was converted to appreciation for modern art at Goldsmith University. Instead of opposing the two, she tries to bring them into harmony. Anna is a passionate world-traveller. She is inspired by the influences and the art in many different cultures. Her favourite artists are: Gustav Klimt, Georges Braque, Matisse and ancient Japanese painters, especially Utamaro. Her works are held in various private collections in England, France, Italy and Belorussia.
