ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'The Ladies' is a figurative painting on a vintage 80s floral bedspread that was turned to canvas using clear gesso. On top of stretched bedspread is a collage of vintage floral fabrics, from the 60's - 90's. The stretcher bars are aluminum. The figurative ladies are inspired by the painting Discovery by Rene Magritte, which was inspired by Man Rays Film Le Retour à la Raison (The Return to Reason) I have been exploring how the female form was used in surrealist art and hope to bring a female voice to the works that were done by the male surrealist.
