The Last Supper is a painting that has always had an important significance to me and my family because of our Catholic beliefs. This artwork is my own version of the Last Supper scene, where surrealism takes place and my unique style, Toonymania, depicts not only the consternation that occurred among Jesus and his apostles when HE announced that one of them would soon betray HIM but through the symbolism found throughout the painting, other important things are unveiled and revealed: Paradise (behind Jesus), hades (bottom corner and snake), the chalice and the bread (eucharist), blood (salvation), the table (formed by the holy scriptures), other religions (the universal heart of God) and the hands of God father holding (the creation). The birds and the fishes that compose the walls are a reference to tessellation, created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps (geometry formula). It was, however, graphic artist and master of tessellation M.C. Escher, one of my strongest influences, who took the mathematics of tessellation to a whole new different level. The symbols that are mentioned are perhaps the most obvious to find. However, it’s worth taking the time to contemplate every -“creature” or puzzle piece- as I like to refer to the elements that make up the whole of my paintings, promoting a visual and very personal dialogue where each one discovers new meanings and connections.

In perfect harmony, his multiple and diverse “creatures” fuse together creating one, bigger and complete picture. Toonymania art has a very special characteristic, giving it a particularity of its own. Every time the spectator stands in front of any one of his paintings will be a memorable experience since there is so much to discover.
