About The Artwork

This work was inspired by my dog, Niko, who is portrayed as Jesus in this re-interpretation of the Last Supper. My reason in creating this work is to stop anti-animal sentiment in our society. For people to see them as sentient beings and understand that they need to be treated humanely. Animals are closer to god for they are not distracted by the proverbial shiny red bike as humans are. They can teach us so much. I photographed Niko with me and our friends and family, then painted over the photograph. Painting over a photograph is a way to create a new reality.
