The Lawnt is a part if the Ystrad River. Situated in Denbigh, North Wales. It runs through the grounds of the Denbigh Asylum which was closed in 1995 and sadly left to ruin. Myself and a number of friends, when we were children used to swim in this river, just behind where I took the photo. Many hot summers were spent cooling down in the cool water and the shade from the surrounding trees. When I look at my painting I can almost smell the strong aroma of the wild garlic plants which grow there. On this particular day I took my son on a long relaxing walk to that he could appreciate this small part of North Wales. At the age of 3 as he was at the time I don't think he appreciated it as much as I did. I just had to get my phone out and use the camera to record the image I was seeing. Hovering my phone about two inches above the water's surface I snapped this. Once I saw the photo I just had to paint it in my own style... I'm not usually pleased with my paintings but this one, I am contented with the end result. I hope you like it too.
