ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is a multi-figure oil painting depicting a couple of youth in front of a worn iron gate. There is a dog chasing a magpie which is flying off the picture plan. In the center is a hooded youth holding a wooden sword, modeled after one of my childhood friends. To the left the are two youth arguing and one of them is holding a newspaper, which is hanging off the picture plane. This painting is part of a larger body of work which involves the relationship between Irish and Californian culture.

I am a fine artist originating from Ireland, currently based in southern California, who focuses on narrative based figure painting. I was born in California and moved to Ireland at the age of seven. I returned to California at the age of 18 to pursue my passion for art. I actively attend art workshops, own my own portrait painting business and am currently taking portrait commissions. I earned my BFA for drawing and painting from Cal State University, Long Beach, and my studio arts degree and narrative illustration certificate from Orange Coast College. I have been exhibited in numerous fine art galleries and museums such as the University Art Museum (UAM) in Long Beach, The National Gallery of Ireland, The Crawford Art Museum, Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion, The Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA) and the Irvine Fine Arts Center.
