This painting features a very raw look and feel as I reflect on the persistence and strength of our natural landscape in comparison to the our urban man made world. This painting is inspired by the weathering process of raw industrial materials, such as steel and concrete. The burgundy colour mirrors the rusty look of weathered steel. A relief within some circles is achieved using a cement past to reflect the industrial material. The process includes very rough sanding, and scratching into the canvas to reveal previous layers and mimic the weathering process of our environment. Photo transfer techniques using cellulose thinners is used as a response to mass advertising. The faint photo-transfered text surfacing in this painting refers to the abandonment and weathering of old manifestations and poster advertisements. Using a harsh car paint thinning chemical I reflect on the merciless nature of man made development towards our natural environment. The text that is transfered onto the painting is from a pop culture magazine. I have selected texts and articles that speak of themes of multi culture, reverting to the themes of journey and travel within my work. By using a pop culture magazine, I reflect on current cultural and political climates. The fine blue line, hints at a serendipitous journey though the chaotic, raw landscape that I have built upon the canvas.

Sabrina Brouwers is a truly international artist - half-German, half-Italian, and now living and working in South London. Working mainly with abstract paintings in acrylic, her style has been strongly influenced by her nomadic upbringing and her fascination with design principles. Her paintings are largely monochrome and feature geometric shapes that repeat over a grid system, all plotted with a mathematical precision. She states that the unnaturally rigid grid is a mirror to our urban landscapes, while circles are introduced to juxtapose with and challenge this sense of order. Sabrina has an interesting background, having grown up between different countries before studying a bachelors in fine art at Falmouth University in 2019. She has since developed her style of geometric abstract painting, studying a postgraduate diploma in graphic design at the University of Art in London. Sabrina now works as both an artist and a graphic designer, and the influence of these two differing disciplines is clear to see throughout her paintings.
