ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Place Dauphine is a secluded triangular park on the Île de la Cité in Paris, one of many places in the city where you can sit at a sidewalk café and forget that you’re in a major metropolis. As I prepared to photograph an entrance, the most beautiful russet-pink pigeon rose up from the sidewalk. It looked like an animated piece of rose quartz jewelry had just taken flight! Lucky shot, but what surprised me was that nobody else seemed to notice. If “all birds are angels”, how will we hear their messages if we ignore them?

“I create convergent media art that celebrates the values of rural life and of the land itself, that fosters a sense of self-empowerment, self-love, self-representation, community, and the strengths of traditional cultures. My work explores the relationship between both high and low technology cultures, ethnic and class identities, shamanic tourism, and an expanding sense of the natural and supernatural worlds. As a verbal and visual storyteller, I strive to commit my rich and varied life experiences to canvas and paper, sharing the ceremonial life of indigenous communities in both normal and visionary time, and exploring concepts of strength and vulnerability through treatments of my royal, noble, and humble ancestors. What starts out as contemplation becomes, I hope, a portal for the viewer to briefly enter another reality, leaving only a sense of a picture album of the road not taken and a eulogy for the self-imposed limits of our existence.” Books "ESCAPE From the Darkroom! - Old-School Principles Applied to Modern Digital Photography" [2013] “GeoHypnotics: A Gentle Way to Access Deeper Consciousness” [2016] Four volumes ; ; ;
