About The Artwork

This is a symbolic visual interpretation of the work of a salesman. I was once a salesman and this work shows elements about sales and on how to be successful in the profession. For example, the two masks in the hands of the central figure suggests that the salesman must be in control of his emotions before he faces his clients. There are a lot more to discover in the painting - some are simple stories that perhaps only I can interpret. I used a modified version of the byzantine technique called verdaccio in creating the painting. There are about 8 to 13 layers of acrylic paint in the work. I did this to create the various textures and shadow effects that cannot be achieved with just a few layers of paint. I chose acrylic because multiple layers require a lot of drying time in between. The colors achieved are subtle and shadow colors are richer due to the interaction of various underpaint colors. Hard and soft edges are also more pronounced. The overall effect exudes a soft, melodic, and enigmatic feel that encourages further introspection of the piece.

I paint visual narratives. I try to visualize information, issues, contradictions, scenarios, events, fallacies, and realities of life and weave everything into a story. Lately, my work has been focusing on social and political visual narratives. Most of the time, I use symbolism and prefer to create a scene with elements seemingly disconnected from each other.
