ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is part of my latest series, “Fading Memories.” Our memories come back to us, not picture perfect but as fragmented pieces. As I looked through a high school yearbook from 1940, it struck me that everyone had beautiful, cursive handwriting so I added the message to the painting. My brushwork is my personal handwriting in my paintings so I let the brushwork show. This has become more important to me than showing every detail in a composition. The camera recorded the scene, but I painted it.
