ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My work is inspired by the embroidery of the typical dresses of my country. The popular culture of Peru relates politics, religion, sexuality, magic and fashion in its expressions. My work is simply a reflection of all that borage of disorder and chaos that Peruvians experience. Capitalism has been part of our history. There were difficult situations of violence and also political conjunctures and that, when mixed with popular culture, in my opinion, produced ridiculous, stupid and empty expressions such. I believe that representing the embroidery of the dresses in a realistic way in my painting by means of oil painting is a way of honoring the craft of artisans whose work is something very different from the cultural reality of my country.
