For me, some artworks have specific inspirations and others are simply a flow. Opening my mind to the canvas and letting it lead me. This is one of those pieces. Eric Guenette is a self-taught abstract painter that applies the visual principles of years of professional graphic design into organic and subtly sophisticated artworks using common mediums, such as latex, acrylic, spray paint on homemade wooden structural and decorative framing, on substrates such as painters' drop cloths, fiberboard, plywood, cardboard and repainting unwanted thrift store paintings. The works feel modern and urban with a sense of motion and energy. The ubiquitous curves throughout the works give the viewer a glimpse into Eric's vision of "abstract portraits," which capture the energy and resilience of everyday people as they struggle for freedom, democracy and equality in a time of unprecedented global authoritarianism, climate change and economic inequality.
