This is perhaps the third or fourth painting in what became my current style which is painting on clothing fixed to a solid wooden canvas. In this, less is more version of my style, I allowed more of the Masonite board to show through the very open weaved fabric. I made this at the same time I created “A step out for a smoke”. For both of the works, I went to a secondhand clothing store to get the clothing and fabric I used. I was so broke at the time that I couldn’t use any of my own clothes. I was using them. I think the fabric in the lower section is actually a curtain and not clothing, I do not recall. I cut the corner off the tubes of acrylic yellow and black paint then squeezed out the paint without thinking of anything subjective. For me, they ended up creating a wedding ring and a sperm which led to the inspiration of the title. I liked how the paint ended up laying on top of the sweater fragment instead of soaking into it. Abstract art, I believe, is supposed to force the viewer to come to their own conclusions about what they are seeing, more so than subjective art which can spoon-feed what you are seeing (not that there is anything wrong with that). I think the title of the art should do the same thing, force the viewer into thinking “how does the title apply to the work?”. What does this mean to you? Purchase NFT at:

Greg Hausler was born in New York but raised in Kansas where he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. During his time at college, he developed his signature technique of using articles of clothing and other textiles instead of linen canvas for his mixed-media abstract paintings. His non-traditional use of painting media is influenced by Marcel Duchamp and street artists while his painting technique draws inspiration from Jackson Pollock and Claude Monet resulting in a style of work that is uniquely his own.
