ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"They gave me a pencil to chew" is part of a series of stuffed animals paintings "Childhood Memories" I've been doing lately. When I did this painting I thought of how a child is happy when he gets a toy he really wanted! I hope the viewers will feel the relationships between the (stuffed) animals and feel the happiness and joy of life. For many years I painted in watercolor enjoying the ability that watercolor has for expressing ones feelings.Lately I've seen that oil also gives me the opportunity of expressing my feelings. This painting took me a month to accomplish which is the average time of most of my paintings.

I am an american living in Israel. I studied painting and composition at the Art Students League in New York in the mid 70's. mostly in the studio of H. Lee Smith who was one of the great teachers in the league. In my earlier days I painted landscapes and portraits mostly in water-color, and printed woodcuts and wood engravings. In recent years I've been painting in oil on gesso'd wood. My approach to painting is to work out the composition and color relationships thoroughly and then concentrate on the emotional facets and imagination involved in order to give the viewers happiness and good feelings seeing the good points in others, and connecting to to the joy of life. Lately I've been working on a series of paintings (oil on wood) of Childhood Memories. I always use the best quality materials available.
