ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The inspiration for this work comes from women through the ages, striving for women's rights / civil rights. The suffragettes that came before me. Those who have moved women's rights forward through the chaos. This work is for you. I stand here now because you helped bring me "Through The Chaos". Soul sisters, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. This original artwork is an encaustic mixed media piece. It measures 24"x 36" and is on a wood panel and framed with a simple white frame to accent the monochromatic look of the work. This is an encaustic painting on a wood panel. The encaustic medium is used as the carrier of the pigments and has a unique finish unlike any other. Beeswax and Damar resin were melted together to form the encaustic medium and then with pigments to create each color of paint. Many layers of the hot, liquid wax medium were painted onto the wood panel, fused with a heat gun and allowed to cool before adding the next layer of wax paint. It has a lovely contrast of texture built up through the wax medium and carved. It is heavily textured with wax flower buds forming the dress design elements in the painting. Typical of beeswax, this painting has a rich, luscious quality that begs to be touched and is extremely archival. With very simple care, it can last a lifetime.
