Jelena Rushing Chipman was born to a lower middle-class family in Tylertown, Mississippi and later her family moved to D’Iberville, Mississippi where she was raised. Once enrolled in school she was diagnosed with Dyslexia, which challenged her physically and mentally, but brought out her creative side. At a young age she turned to art as her strength and started drawing with pencil to paper which later evolved into painting on wood and other media. Jelena is a self-taught artist who uses a variety of mediums such as paint, sculpture, paper Mache, clay, and refinishing furniture all with an art flair and she regularly uses acrylics, watercolors, charcoal, and soft pastel gels in her work. She is also a self-taught cake sculpture artist and sugar artist. Her inspiration comes from her life living on the bay where she lives with her husband and three dogs. She takes daily strolls on the water’s edge and loves spending time with her two beautiful grandsons. She has created and sold many pieces of art and loves the pleasure it brings to others.
