An Ethiopian proverb says "When spiders unite, they can tie down a lion." This painting is really a depiction of the importance of fully accepting all parts of our unique psyche and integrating them to work toward our best possible existence. Embracing the beauty in us, the part of ourselves that are still being developed, the ugliness, the vibrancy, the instability, the self assurance, the self doubt, our failures and accomplishments. When we fully love and accept the best and the worst of ourselves, only then can we grow into something unstoppable. Only then can we unite with others, making it possible to tie down the lions that challenge our existence. 36x24 deep profile stretched canvas (back stapled). My mission with the sale of my art is to make substantial donations to The National Alliance For the Mentally Ill (NAMI). I often explore feelings and always examine the human experience in my work. I love portraying people, emotion, spirituality, and the natural world in vibrant color. I define my work as expressionism heavily influenced by a love of nature, the female form, and Earth / Goddess centered spirituality. I seek to understand how the mind works through art. Some of my portraits are representations of my spiritual influences and others are simply portrayals of the beauty all women possess. I enjoy connecting to my spirituality by combining abstracts with portrayals of nature and nature spirits and deities, mostly expressed in the female form. I feel that the divine feminine has long been stifled by narrow-minded conceptions of the nature of God; thus, I like to paint portrayals of this beautiful aspect of spirituality. Do not expect realism, but expressionist portrayals of the beauty of people, the spirit world, and all the diversity of beauty that the Earth surrounds us with. Creating feels uplifting to me and I like to approach it with an open mind. Concentrating too much on trying to push a particular direction can ruin the experience. I want to continue experimenting and no subject is off-limits for me, including abstract expressions. I would describe my style as a strong use of vibrant color, complicated palettes and lots of movement in the strokes to mimic dancing. Many of my works are painting-on-painting with an underlying abstract design. My earliest paintings were strictly abstract and I still enjoy creating them, both as stand-alone pieces and to overlay with other subjects. My underlying abstract works are an expression of joy and sometimes sorrow. There is freedom in just creating without pressure to make something that resembles anything found in nature. Sometimes they are loose representations and then I put the concrete subject over the top. I also have a deep admiration for many portrait artists and aspire to paint more of the female form. I create every day, I create with musical background, and I keep my choice of music uplifting and pertinent when I paint to ensure I am infusing my creations with positive emotion, albeit, I listen to a wide variety of genres. In my work, you will see dancing, you will see depictions of women that leave the faces undefined, open to your personal interpretation, and you will see some where they are depicted in all their detail.
