The Columbus Museum commissioned this series of work; two of which have remained in their permanent collection. "This town is alive with the dreams of the people who live here - and the aspirations of the people who visit. My art is not only about making interesting pictures, but of trying to capture the soul of a place. There are hundreds more images my eye captures every time I look around! The Chattahoochee Valley is a wealth of inspiration for an artist with its history, depth, and a lively community of people who care about it. The river is a constant companion, always moving but willing to share the time of day with you if you’ll stop to listen to it. The rail lines crisscross the town and country and the trains carry goods from one state to the next. The streets in downtown Columbus are straight and flat, giving vistas and view points unlike what we have in Athens, Ga. The water towers and the mill stacks and the church steeples punctuate the sky with a beautiful grace. One can sense the layers of history as you drive through the countryside; also full of life and potential, a quiet beauty with hidden gems waiting to be discovered. I am fascinated by the town of Columbus and the life that is surging back to the city as the river surges over the recently recovered whitewater course. It’s welcoming citizens are a warm and friendly, inviting me to discussion and into their homes. I was assigned to create 11 images of the Chattahoochee Valley for the Columbus Museum. Such a project is a life’s dream and I did not take it lightly. I wanted to feel the place, walk the streets, drive the countryside, cycle along the river, marvel at the clear blue sky and the setting sunset lighting up the water tower at 12th Street and Front Avenue. Thank you, Columbus, for sharing your beauty with me." US Highway 82, Georgetown, GA is the artist's personal favorite from this exhibit. I am very proud of the color, the depth, and the design of this silk painting. The house was empty, left by the side of the road, and was obviously handmade. It was a true beauty. Silk painting arrives hemmed with a rod for ease of hanging.
