ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The inspiration for this piece comes from memories of growing up in rural Japan. In the summertime, as a gesture of goodwill, people would often hose the street and footpath in front of their homes (Uchimizu). As the water evaporated in the heat, it cooled the path for anyone that happened to pass by, making their journey slightly more comfortable. I still remember the mixture of shades and patterns this created, particularly the way water pooled on the uneven surface and refracted the light which always captured my imagination and this piece is an attempt to recreate that sense of wonder.

Hi there, my name is MAMIKO, thank you for stopping by. I'm a Japanese artist living in Australia and I enjoy creating unusual pieces with a range of different materials like paint, make-up, toothpaste, whatever I feel can bring my vision to life. When I was younger I used to paint message boards for my friends instead of giving them cards which spawned a yearning to create bigger, more elaborate pieces. I exhibited for many years in Japan under the name Angelica Lux, a carry-over from the Spanish influence that dominated my early works, however since moving here to Australia I want to represent my heritage so I now paint under my Japanese name. I have lived in a few different countries and travel extensively, taking inspiration from the cultures I visit.
