ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Art War Diary is my way of resistance. These works are a reaction to the events of the war. I woke up in Odessa on February 24 from explosions. We left for another region of Ukraine. A week after the start of the war, experiencing strong stress, I began to paint these watercolors, in March 2022, to overcome stress, grief, anger and all other feelings that were tearing me apart from the inside. In the house where we settled, families of Ukrainian refugees, each with their own history, temporarily stopped, then they moved on. One week I was painting with a seven-year-old girl who spent 10 days under shelling in a basement in Bucha. Lucky they managed to escape. I drew with her to help her art therapy, then I cried and painted the artwork "Life during the war". I was horrified to learn more and more details every day about what is happening with my Ukraine, how my friends in Kyiv, Kharkov, Irpin are suffering, how many are forced to leave. The news from Bucha, Brodyanka the violence against women and children was unbearable. I looked at photos and posts from my Ukrainian friends and strangers, but we are all one family. Destroyed houses, tormented land - all these are scars. I painted and showed my work on Facebook, and people wrote that it helps them to experience feelings. I have been creating this visual diary for three months now. The war is still going on.
