ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is an original in acrylics, in golden, copper and brown tones. It is inspired by writer Milan Kundera's famous quote "Her drama was a drama not of heaviness but of lightness. What fell to her lot was not the burden but the unbearable lightness of being.” In this painting, the sense of "lightness" as opposed to the feeling of "burden" is expressed in a sensory feeling by adding a physical component, so I used different mediums such as sand and gesso to create a textured effect. The canvas is framed.

Alessia Sersanti was born and raised in Rome, Italy, in 1973 where she learned how to paint from her mother who was a local artist in Rome during the 70’s. She is a painter and a fashion designer. As a painter, she studied Renaissance painting techniques from a local artist in Florence, where she developed a love for the expressive potential of abstract art. As a designer, she designed a line of luxury women’s handbags for the Asian market entirely manufactured in Italy and launched her own brand in 2017. Alessia currently lives with her family and her Husky dog in Kirkland, WA working as a professional artist.
