Under a blue sky #1 Print

This is a first of two paintings that were a commission from Sina and Jorrit. They will hang next to each other on a wall in Jorrit’s apartment. When we talked about the commission, Sina told me of a mountain in Iran that he loves, and Jorrit of the Dutch islands. What I wanted to express is the idea that in a relationship, we are together as individuals. We remain ourselves, we are different people, and there is something bigger that unites us. In these paintings, it’s the horizon and the blue sky. And because there’s always an important detail in my paintings, some of the seagulls from Jorrit’s beach are visiting Sina’s mountain, and a wild dog from the mountains has found its way to the beach.
