ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by a TV series on General Grant with excellent photography of battles and individual soldiers. I became a big fan of General Grant after viewing this series. The adage that Blacks had to fight for their freedom was proven to be literally true when they were recruited into the Union Army as foot soldiers. Gruesome events during that war and its aftermath, the so-called "Reconstruction" and then "Jim Crow" periods led to Klan atrocities and further massacres.
