Influenced by feelings of decay and renewal; death, rebirth and immortality; finitude and infinity; Simon-A's sees his art, not as created, but as something that has always existed, crying out from the darkness to be rescued. “Without light there is just darkness - it is the role of the artist to throw light onto colour, shape and form to allow it to find its way back and onto to its next destination, whether displayed, forgotten, or converted to ashes and smoke.” Diagnosed as colour blind at an early age and told that he could never be artist, his works are dominated by primary colours, monochrome, and single colour creations that are “only finished when hung or destroyed”. Born in the UK, Simon-A now lives in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has previously lived and worked in London, Wales, and West Africa.
