Acrylic on Italian paper. I was inspired by the trees in Richmond Park to paint a picture looking up through them. I wanted to create a perspective which we don't normally take in and this artwork is about challenging the way we look at the world around us. I chose acrylic to work with over oil because it dries more quickly so you have to work more quickly with the medium. I think when painting the natural world it's important to paint freely to try and capture the fluidity of the trees.

Amber Sidney-Woollett is a London-based artist and writer who graduated from the University of Oxford, Magdalen College, where she studied English. Whilst at university, Amber kept up with her artist practice and even now, working full-time in advertising, she makes art before work, after work and at the weekend. Her ambition is to be able to quit her job and work as an artist full-time to continue developing her practice. She enjoys the symbiosis of writing and art and finds that throughout her artist practice poems are often feeding paintings and vice versa. She is drawn to the natural world and paints an oasis of trees, views and natural forms, including the human body. Amber practices a variety of media from oil and acrylic painting, to college, drawing and print-making. She finds her best work is created from the rub of one medium against the other.
