ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I was painting seafood on ice, but all my paintings made the creatures come back to life in a vivid environment. My melancholy let me choose the topic and colors but my spirit brought everything to life. A transition between the living and the departed. How I see the painting now; In life we have to fight many uphill battles. The little fish swimming upstream. Jumping over rocks and failing, fighting against the current. Trying over and over again - in the hope to reach our destination. Sort of tells the story of my life - an uphill battle but determined like that little fish. Very much alive.

I am an artist and scientist. I think the artist comes first because without my creativity I would be lost in my scientific endeavors. I am currently getting my PhD in biomedical sciences. I regularly escape the lab with my camera or paint brushes. In the winter I spend my time reflecting on my artistic work and review my photographs from places I have visited. In the summer I like to paint everything that comes my way. A scenery, an image, and people all inspire me alike. Occasionally, I also take images with a confocal microscope by labelling biomolecules with fluorescent probes. I love to become one with nature either in small microscopic dimensions or large sceneries touched by human life. In my art I try to capture what surrounds me with an unsurmountable appetite for the unknown.
