A large, semi abstract, contemporary landscape painting in acrylic medium on professional square primed canvas. I have used subtle colour tones of turquoise, ultramarine blue, grey, burnt umber and soft cream to describe the land, rock and reflection upon wet sand. It has been painted in a slightly impressionistic way which is full of expression and painterly technique throughout. Overall, neutral in tone with strong contrasting features. This artwork has great depth and perspective giving a sense of freedom of space. It has been inspired by my time spent at many UK coastal locations, primarily the Cornish coastline, studying texture, contour, colour and nuances of the land amongst the elements of the changeable British weather. It is both moody and atmospheric and painted in a semi abstract style. The artwork is deep in tone with a rustic but modern quality. The cloudy sky reflects onto the rocky wet sand where I have used an expressionist form of painterly lines and detail. I find that using acrylic paint with different mediums gives me the effects I need to convey the aspects of uneven, coarse, natural beauty for a seascape such as this and am able to work with impact and immediacy to convey a sense of presence. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in paintings are light, subtlety of colour, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood which was present at the time of painting it. It has been left unframed for you to decide the frame to reflect your interior, whether home or your work space. It will suit either the contemporary frame or the more traditional choice.

Janet works from her studio in South Cambridgeshire, as a freelance artist, supplying semi abstract, impressionistic and fine art to publishing companies worldwide. Her paintings are sold from galleries throughout the South of England and internationally via the web. She has become a much recognized artist for her subject matter and her unique creative style of work. ʺI enjoy experimenting with all mediums but watercolor and acrylic are the ones I find most satisfying. Depending on the subject, I find that it would either lend itself more to the delicate touches of watercolor or to the stronger and more vibrant colors of acrylic paint and each would allow me to translate a ‘mood’ a subject might evoke”. I have come to realize that it’s not ‘what you paint’ that is important, but ‘how you paint it’. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in my paintings are light, subtlety of color, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood, which was present at the time of painting it.ʺ
