This picture was painted as an emotive response to beautiful vista that I saw one winters evening of the planet Venus above a crescent moon. I wanted to capture the colours and feel quickly hence the use of a more immediate impressionistic and painterly style. It is a reoccurring theme that I have explored over the years as I am repeatedly drawn to nocturnal subject. For me there is a great charm and attraction to scenes of sleepy urban lights crowned by majestic skies. This particular urban scene is loosely based on my home town with its Victorian and Edwardian architecture, which adds greatly to its nostalgic feel. Another aspect to this piece is the relationship between man and the landscape; that no matter how great our industrial endeavours may be they are always humbled beneath the skies and heavens above. The hope with this painting is that the scene resonates in some way with the viewer and that they are equally charmed by its aesthetic quality. Additional Information: It was painted using Artists quality oils on box canvas, which are my preferred mediums. It also has the unique feature of being painted on the sides, giving the viewer a greater expanded perspective. Therefore no frame is required and is ready to hang.

Multidisciplined artist (painter, illustrator, designer, maker, musician, music producer and composer). Born 1968 and based in West Yorkshire, I specialise in creating contemporary landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, portraiture and figurative oil paintings. My paintings are representational and often painted in series, or as part of a themed collection. I work in various opaque mediums and surfaces, though my preferred medium is oil on canvas, as this gives the greatest flexibly and richness of colour and quality of finish. Influences are many and varied, a few include Pissarro, Klimt, Grimshaw, Millais, and Waterhouse, and their processes and techniques have served as a fundamental teaching aid to my own learning. I come from a line of artists, which has had a very strong influence during my formative years. For the most part I am a self taught, after learning the rudiments through formal education, much of my knowledge of painting comes through countless hours practice over the past thirty years and more. My passion for art began at an early age and was greatly encourage throughout my childhood. I went on to study Graphic Design at Batley Art college in 1984. During this time I formed my first band, this eventually led to becoming a professional musician in the following years. Music remains to be a strong part of my creative practice, and to this day I continue to work with long time collaborator and close friend, award winning singer songwriter Shaun T. Hunter (aka Captain of the Lost Waves). Over the past decade we have produced several albums and music videos together. In 2006, after many years as an amateur artist I took up painting full time and began my professional practice. Since then I have taken part in numerous exhibitions, and my work has been sold through both bricks and mortar and online Galleries alike, and continue to gain ever growing number of customers and admirers throughout UK and beyond.
