ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inside the packaging will be included a printed sheet containing the narrative related to this canvas. That's the story behind "Viktoria" painting: London – Novemeber 1987 “I woke up at 9 in the morning in a small hotel in Harrow on the Hill. The carpet was red and the green curtains were slightly open, letting a pale London sun filter through. She was lying on the bed, sleeping on her side with her back facing me, light playfully reflecting on her cheek and on her side. Silk, dear friend. Silk. The intents of my body were lascivious like those of my thoughts. My muscles turned back into the miserly search for her being. I reached out to touch her, but immediately drew back for fear of ruining that perfect sleep. Viktoria ... we smiled for two days disappearing into each other. For a moment, in that silence, I stopped. I thought about how far a man has to travel before feeling at home, that strenuous search for the good retreat that leads us to walking towards distant horizons. So her hair became my pillow and her skin my home.”

Gambatesa's work is a synthesis of the light and color of a place. The artist dedicates his entire life to "travel" and makes it the main body of his painting practice. Gioacchino succeeds in making us realize that exploration is a private thing. In fact, each of us, experiencing the discovery of a place, actually discovers it for the first time, and the resulting feeling is the same as that experienced by ancient explorers, as if we were a modern-day Christopher Columbus. When we look at a work by Gioacchino Saltagrillo Gambatesa we observe the very personal emotion that the artist felt in discovering a place, a person, a situation. Let us, then, be inspired by those vibrant colors and light that these works emanate. Let us go there, into the place described by the title of the work, allowing ourselves five minutes of...meditation...
