Voyeurs To the Birth Print

This painting is inspired by the idea of "others" that watch over our human existence, whether they be angels, deceased relatives, or just nosey entities with time on their side. The figure on the right is a human in process of being born: physically, spiritually, or metaphorically. The figures on the left are watching the process with clear opinions about what is happening. I chose this scene, because I wanted to approach the idea of creation from a different vantage point. I hope the viewer is intrigued by the idea, and perhaps amused by it. The original concept was inspired by a detail painting of angels by Botticelli. I chose acrylic and ink because of the color saturation possibilities in the mediums. They are able to maintain a level of brightness and allow me to work fast and layer the colors. Parts of the surface have a glossy finish of acrylic medium to enhance the ethereal otherworldly effect.
