Milan Loviška (*Bratislava) is an undisciplinary artist with focus on performance, painting, installation, video and new technologies. He studied contemporary dance and performance at Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague and at SNDO in Amsterdam. To balance art with science he obtained a master‘s degree in psychology at Charles University in Prague. Throughout his career he has been collaborating with numerous international artists as a performer, choreographer, and dramaturg, while creating own solo performances that has toured across Europe. Milan Loviška uses acrylic painting to create a multiverse of distorted faces, transgressive bodies, and liminal spaces. His work blends fantasy with figuration, crafting eerie, unsettling narratives that evoke a strange yet familiar sense of closeness and solace. Some earlier pieces are self-referential, reflecting his performance practice. Since 2011 he also makes works together with the stage and costume designer and performer Otto Krause. Their performance-based projects range from big theatrical stage productions and performances in public spaces to more intimate situations in galleries and site-specific venues. The artists live in Vienna and present their work in galleries, venues, festivals and symposia in Europe and Asia. In 2018, they were awarded the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance, the only prize for performance art in Austria. In recent years, they were awarded the International Studio Fellowship in Tokyo (2024) and NYC (2026) by the Austrian Ministry of Culture.
