About The Artwork

"Walking on Water - Glacier" is part of an ongoing series of painting to ask "can we walk on water?" after the March 11th, 2011 Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami that wiped away entire fishing villages in Northern Japan, and the ongoing Nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan. This particular painting is also part of an ongoing collaboration between Susie Ibarra (visionary percussionist and composer) who has also composed music of the same title in response to an earlier version of these paintings. The materials used are traditional Nihonga material of azurite of various coarseness and gradations used as as early as 8th century Japan, but done on specially treated "space age" polished canvas. This painting was selected to be featured in a seminal survey of Nihonga influenced Contemporary Art exhibit at Pola Museum between July and December of 2023 called "Shin Nihonga" exhibit. Note on digital prints: Due to restrictions in dimensions, the prints are slightly shorter than the original painting. Unsigned to keep the price as accessible as possible.
