This series of paintings is inspired by photos taken from a Birdseye view on a plane. While in lockdown and missing travel, I was drawn to the many photos I had taken over the years of sitting in a window seat on a plane. I began to realize how much we took for granted until we couldn't do it anymore. For most, being on a plane is usually uncomfortable and a necessary evil of getting from point A to point B. When we were grounded during 2020 I realized how incredible it is to be able to have the perspective of being above the earth, to see it from another angle. Remembering the famous quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson "It's not the destination, it's the Journey". This was so apparent to me during this time of uncertainty and the absence of everything we knew as normal. As a painter, this couldn't be more true, it's in the journey that a painting takes shape and becomes what it will ultimately be and usually not what you thought it would.

“As a visual artist, I am primarily interested in process and experimentation. This comes from an inclination to try a lot of different mediums to satiate my curiosity. I did not have a formal art school education and as a result I have never bound myself with a set “rules” for being consistent in how I put my art out in the world. I continuously dabble and try different styles and mediums but at the heart of all of it is a desire to connect with my viewer and to tell a story of human oneness.” “Practicing art is a pathway for me into the spiritual realm. Nature brings me closer to the divine and is the entry point I cross when working on my paintings. Painting allows me to explore the wonder and awe I observe in nature by using abstract imagery of the natural world through texture, shape, color, and light to communicate my sense of connection to the universe.”" Born in South Africa and raised in Canada, Suzie Jellinek is a contemporary abstract painter. After attending FIT in New York with a successful career in Fashion, Suzie decided to pursue her passion for painting full time. She is influenced by nature, travel and Mid-Century Modern painters and the Impressionists. She is curious about the relationship to different colors found in nature and how they play off each other. She plays with color, texture, shape, and pattern and is inspired by her own interpretation of the natural world around her. She resides in Connecticut with her family. Her work has been placed in both private and public collections . She has also had a collaboration with Restoration Hardware and General Public Art. Most recently, one of her paintings was hung at a public space in Darien CT.
