About the Artist

Adriana Serban

United States

I am painting because seeing the abundant beauty of God's creation in the surroundings or as it is saved in the memory, as the poet Mary Oliver said, "makes us ache to be worthy of it".

I learned painting from watching artists at work, learned much from all but, as a self-taught artist, painting is deeply personal to me, I am creating compositions as storytelling, the use of color being a tool for the composition not only the art itself.

By painting as a narrative ,my intention is to create an emotional bond with my viewers, take them on a secret path towards the childhood's imagery and memories, a collection about unique and powerful feelings around people we love, about the way animals , birds and beyond , are loving us back .
I paint stories—small, intimate ones, suspended in time. Through layers of color and soft, impressionistic brushwork, I explore the quiet magic tucked inside everyday moments: a mother dancing in the rain with her child, a father lifting a kite as his child leaps beside him, a cat perched like a sentinel while music swells from a backyard. These are not grand spectacles, but glimpses into the wonder of human connection—gestures that live in memory even when the moment passes.

Women and children appear often in my work, accompanied by animals, movement, and nature. I’m drawn to their inner worlds—their dreams, tenderness, strength, and curiosity; each painting is my way of honoring the beauty in the unnoticed.
I experimented different styles, techniques and ways of expression; lived in many places on earth to enrich the perception of life, ways of living and feeling, see the light falling on landscapes. observe animals in the midst of seasons until I reached the painting that I love and is the most accurate expression of who I am as an artist. I took classes for painting, joined painting clubs and groups, sampled tens of styles, mediums and expression until I came to what I am now. I love to bring life to canvas, am delighted when emotions, feelings, thoughts and words are turning into colors.
I am thrilled to use as inspiration the lifelong experience of working with humans in their most intense situations. Tens of my paintings are used by psychologists (in New York, from Suffolk to Manhattan). to heal broken souls.
I love to share my joy of life with art lovers.
