Whitby Abbey was one of the buildings destroyed by Henry V111 and also provided the setting for the final scenes of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It is an extremely atmospheric place set high on a hill above a flight of 199 steps which are not to be tackled after a good lunch!

Despite living in land-locked Leicestershire, Robert (Bob) Petcher has a passion for all things coastal and he communicates this relationship through his art. In the last year, visits to The Gower Peninsular, North Yorkshire and East Anglia have provided him with inspiration for a series of works in acrylic on canvas, designed to transport him back to the places he loves. His work arises from a desire to chronicle his travels which he describes as ‘Impressions of the Land & Sea’ a never ending work in progress! Bob has been painting since the early nineties and works from his own original photographs. Initially he covered a wide range of subjects but has more recently focussed on dramatic seascapes and beach scenes from around the coast of Britain. He works mainly in acrylics but also enjoys watercolour.
