Will Rogers Beach, March 2021 Print

This painting was inspired by a feeling of hopefulness as the country started making progress in vaccinating the population and emerging from a winter spent under the shadow of Covid19. People appreciated Southern California's fine weather particularly so after being forced to distance for many months. My palette replicates that of Monet (cobalt blue, chrome yellow, flake white, viridian green, alizarin crimson, madder lake, cadmium yellow pale) along with my signature pigment, the extinct manganese blue. I paint on archival oil- primed linen using archival best practices. The beach is emptier than usual, barely populated with a small but determined group of beach goers. Those who know the spot will recognize it as the beach at PCH Highway 1 and Temescal Canyon.
