ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspiration: I was inspired by my love of snowy landscapes, and wanted to somehow convey not only the tranquility of it's emptiness but the peaceful and meditative feeling I can achieve that comes with muting silence being in a snowfall in the middle of no-where. The rolling landscape painted is what I am familiar with in the Appalachian Plateaus of Ohio. Product: 100% Cotton Cold Pressed paper was used. The original painting is professionally framed with mounting hardware. Description: This watercolor painting presents a serene and melancholic winter scene. The artwork captures the quietude of a snowy landscape, predominantly washed in whites and cool tones, with hints of blues and grays to depict shadows and depth. The foreground is dominated by the figure of a person, painted as a silhouette in a black winter coat, creating a strong contrast against the vastness of the snow. This solitary figure travels on a journey, adding to the narrative quality of the scene. A fence of vertical posts stretches across the midground, acting as a subtle divider for the open field. Some posts lean or are broken, suggesting age or disrepair, which contributes to the painting's feeling of isolation and abandonment. Gentle gradation of whites and grays blurs the boundary between land and sky. The atmosphere is one of solitude, reflection, and the passage of time, emphasized by the broad and undisturbed expanse of the snowy field, the overcast sky, and the single human element moving through the scene. There's a sense of coldness conveyed by the muted color palette and the dampness of the watercolor medium, with pigments bleeding into one another to suggest the chill of a winter's day. The simplicity of the composition, the use of negative space, and the evocation of stillness through the medium's characteristics, all serve to create a contemplative piece that invites the viewer to ponder the solitude of the figure within the vast silence of the winter landscape.

Contemporary impressionism artist with watercolor, oil pastel, and oil paint paintings. I have only been painting for a few months. I was told repeatedly I was extremely talented at art as a child, but quit art at the age of 14 entirely, picking it back up 18 years later recently. Not even a single sketch my entire adult life. My skills are a little rusty, but I am enjoying the journey again. This time without it overwhelmingly forced on me.
