Irena turned to artistic practice at the age of reason after having graduated from the Economic University in Minsk and having worked for three years as an accountant. Then she studied graphic design at the University of the Arts, but painting constantly attracted her.
Irena Matiash is often drawn to subjects that convey a certain independence, strength, and nonchalance. Liberated from the male gaze, her paintings celebrate femininity by depicting powerful women with their own agendas who resist objectification and subordination. Her subjects are literally bathed in bold colors. Irina creates her paintings using acrylics, oil paint, and decoupage. Experimenting with various techniques, textures, and patterns, Irena demonstrates mastery in graphic lines, composition, and color theory.
