About The Artwork

"Wren", 2015, acrylic, plaster, and cut-paper collage on plywood, 20 inches tall by 16 inches wide (50 x 40 cm). Gray acrylic was layered with thin coats of plaster and paper, then sanded, each layer varnished before the next was applied, resulting in a shimmering surface like morning sunlight through foliage. The stems and leaves of bamboo, and the shape of one small bird, are then built up in a similar process. The overall effect combines the sensitivity of traditional Asian ink painting with the tactile surfaces of antique Mediterranean fresco. The painting is on lightweight 1/4” plywood, lightly varnished for UV protection, framed in a wood “floater” frame, ready to hang; it is signed and dated both front and back, with title on back. http://www.davidleeholcomb.com

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, and raised in the rural Appalachian foothills of the northeastern part of the state, my childhood was surrounded by the natural world, the rigid social and cultural traditions of the deep South, the distant rumblings of 1960's social changes, and the panoramas of human existence revealed to me through reading, music and art. Most of my adult life has been spent working as a graphic designer in Birmingham, South Florida, and Dallas -- primarily in the television industry -- where I was immersed yet another hybrid universe, a fun-house world of ego, transitory celebrity, and social manipulation. These days I live and work in a cabin on the edge of the Ozark National Forest in northwest Arkansas, decompressing.
