About The Artwork

Original painting in oil on yellow waxed cotton stretched over a wooden frame. Part of 'The Loom Runs. The Smoke Rises', a series of works created during an artist residency at a textiles factory in Dundee, Scotland. The paintings explore the people, processes and architecture of the factory and were created from a studio in the middle of the bustling factory floor. Painted on yellow waxed cotton manufactured by the factory, 'Yellow Lines' shows a typical factory process. You can see the yellow base waxed cotton throughout the surface of the painting. Also when viewing the painting from the side.

NICOLA WILTSHIRE (b.1987 UK) completed her BA at University of Westminster, London (2009) and her MFA at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee (2015). Nicola observes the world through her paintings; using colour and shape to evoke the feeling of a place, person or experience. Images of walks and domestic interiors are amongst the themes used to create a quiet and uplifting space. Each painting begins with patterned fabric stretched over a wooden frame. Nicola draws in charcoal and makes her own oil paint using centuries-old techniques. The work is the result of an enchantment with colour, texture, materials and pattern, plus a celebration of art’s history.
