Yoruba also believes that the concept of beauty is not just about the physical appearance but also, a good character/ attitude. And that brings in the concept of ìwàlẹwà(Character is beauty) This piece is aim to capture the beauty, cultural philosophy, and the struggles of a Yoruba lady. Yoruba is a tribe of the south Western people of Nigeria. The Yoruba people believe that names given to someone are profound, powerful and can influence what he or she will become in life. Hence, they perform ritual and consult oracles before naming a child.This piece titled Àdùnní is a name of a female which means 'one that is pleasant to have'. Yorubas believe that the concept of beauty is beyond the physical appearance. They believe beauty is the character of an individual and that brings in the concept of Ìwàlẹwà, which means character is beauty. In Yoruba culture, the females are well taken care of and given more attention to in their upbringing because Yorubas believe they're life giving beings. Beyond other crucial roles of a woman in the society, Yoruba believe that Women are Life giving beings, hence they're being taken care of.
