I currently live and work in the Chevin Forest, West Yorkshire. I have always, throughout my artistic career been fascinated by the still life tradition. I am interested in focused detail, the shapes created between objects and light and shade. I created a series of square paintings - ‘Crushed’ they have a trompe l’oeil effect and depict flowers literally crushed into a small space. They have a beautiful vibrant colour but a claustrophobic feel. Two years ago I set up a children's art club called 'The Paint Box Menston' which I run from my art studio cabin space. This has helped my own art practice, where I have experimented through my planning lots of different art techniques, printmaking and looking at lots of different Artists, which has inspired me and keeps my art fresh. The children's approach to art is also so energetic that it keeps it fun and their enthusiasm inspires me too.
